Actions and expected results
By investigating successful models of waste management infrastructure, Ukraine can learn from global experience. The programme can facilitate pilot projects, feasibility studies, and exchanges with international experts to identify which innovations are most suitable and scalable within the Ukrainian context.
Sida has suggested a broader set-up to support the programming in this regard, which would involve not only Avfall Sverige and SALAR International, but also Nefco, the Nordic Green Bank, which is well established in Ukraine with a focus on investments in municipal infrastructure. Partnering with Nefco fits well for larger-scale procurements in waste management infrastructure and for providing technical assistance, enhancing the programme’s efforts in pilot areas to explore and develop sustainable infrastructure investments.
Component 10
Investment Support
Purpose
This component initially involves a thorough assessment and mapping of the existing technical waste management infrastructure at both local and regional levels in pilot areas. The assessments will identify needs, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities including local and regional disparities in waste management practices and the corresponding technologies. Such data is crucial for understanding where investments are most urgently needed and what types of waste management infrastructure improvements can have the greatest impact.
