Actions and expected result
The programme will develop specific guidelines to guide the identification, collection, and utilisation of biowaste through the entire value chain, assessing climate impact according to EU standards. Municipalities will play a crucial role in implementing these guidelines efficiently.
Key activities include assessing the legal framework for guidelines, examining existing international best practices and tailoring solutions specific to Ukraine. The guidelines’ applicability will be tested in pilot municipalities.
Component 3
Organic Waste
Purpose
This component focuses on the issue of organic waste, which is a significant source of methane emissions from dumpsites and landfills. The aim is to divert organic waste – including food waste and green waste, away from landfills to mitigate climate impact and reduce reliance on fossil-based fertilisers and fuels. By promoting source separation, the programme seeks to facilitate the conversion of organic waste into compost for soil improvement, biogas as a renewable energy source, and biodigester products for fertiliser use.
