On 23 September, 2025, Lozova, Kharkiv region, received a significant boost to its municipal waste management capacity as a truck donated by the Swedish municipal company Renhållnings from Kristianstad arrived in the city. The vehicle, a 2011 Scania equipped with a compressor cabinet with two compartments, runs entirely on biomethane, reflecting a commitment to environmentally sustainable waste management.

“We have taken initiatives to support those affected by the war in Ukraine. Donating this garbage truck is one piece of the puzzle in rebuilding waste management in the country. With limited resources, progress is difficult but necessary – which is why it’s vital that those who can, join together and help,” – said Johan Karlsvärd, CEO of Renhållningen Kristianstad.
This donation is part of the ongoing cooperation between Lozova and Swedish partner communities under the Waste Management for Ukraine (WM4U) programme. To date, Lozova’s waste management facilities have received a total of 415 waste bins from Swedish municipalities, reinforcing local infrastructure and improving service delivery.

“Thanks to the support of WM4U and our Swedish partners, we are confidently moving towards a clean, modern, and sustainable community. What may seem ordinary today is, in fact, shaping our tomorrow. We are grateful to the professional team for helping us implement change. Together, we are making Lozova community a place where people want to live, grow, and take pride in what we are creating for future generations,” – stated Serhii Hrankin, Head of the Economic Department of Lozova City Council.
Before arriving in Ukraine, the truck was adorned with a vibrant donation sign designed by the programme’s graphic partner Hå-Ji Skylt. The newly delivered truck will be immediately integrated into Lozova’s waste collection system, enhancing operational efficiency while contributing to greener, more sustainable urban services.

We would like to acknowledge both Kristianstads Renhållnings, which donated the garbage truck, and the renowned Kristianstad-based sign company Hå-Ji Skylt, which generously assisted with repainting and striping the truck completely pro bono.
“The support from our Swedish partners is invaluable, not only in providing modern equipment but also in helping to share best practices in sustainable waste management,” added Klas Svensson, International Donations Coordinator at WM4U. “Kristianstad’s commitment to innovation and sustainability – highlighted by their recognition as Waste Management Municipality of the Year in both 2024 and 2025 – sets an excellent example for municipalities across Ukraine.”
