The Bukachiv Town Council in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast has begun developing a Local Waste Management Plan (LWMP). The plan will outline the development of the waste management system through 2035; it is a strategic document setting out objectives and measures to create a modern, efficient, and environmentally safe waste management system in the community.
The plan is intended to help the community reduce waste generation, decrease landfill disposal, and minimize negative impacts on the environment and human health. The document will also incorporate the principles of the circular economy, where waste is viewed as a resource.
A working group is being formed in the community to prepare the Local Waste Management Plan. Representatives of local government bodies, businesses, institutions, civic organizations, environmental experts, and active community members are invited to participate.
The working group’s main tasks include analyzing the current state of waste management, identifying key issues, and developing solutions.
The community is calling on all interested parties to submit their proposals for the draft local waste management plan by June 30, 2026. Details.
Work on the plan will take place within the Swedish-Ukrainian WM4U Programme, which aims to support the development of modern, systemic, and environmentally responsible waste management solutions at local, regional and national levels. The program is funded by the Government of Sweden through Sida and led by Avfall Sverige and SALAR International.
