Actions and expected results

Resource allocation for these pilots is based on the selection of four regions (Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Poltava, and Kharkiv). The areas are diverse in their characteristics, including differences in location, existing waste management conditions, population size, and other relevant factors. Each area comprises a cluster of municipalities within the same region. The initiative will benefit from the active participation of as many municipalities as possible within each area. The main input from the programme is guidance, mentoring, advice, etc. from international experts with experience of similar systems in Sweden and other countries.

In parallel, the regional pilot aims to develop and showcase a comprehensive regional waste management plan that connects regional strategies with local efforts. This initiative will review and potentially revise regional plans in one of the intermunicipal pilot areas to ensure that these align with localised efforts. Key activities include overseeing the planning for waste collection and treatment at the local level and participating in initiatives aimed at mitigating landfill gas emissions and ensuring comprehensive waste collection coverage.
