Training & Knowledge Exchange

This component aims to deepen knowledge and expertise in municipal waste management among the Programme’s stakeholders in Ukraine, covering the entire value chain, in line with both national and regional waste planning strategies and Local Waste Management Plans (LWMPs). The goal is to build the necessary knowledge and capacity to help align Ukraine's waste management systems and operations with EU directives.

Actions and expected results
A thorough assessment of participants’ training needs will inform the design of a comprehensive training package, combining digital and inperson formats. Training resources will first be made available to WM4’spilot clusters, and subsequently extended to municipalities beyond the pilot areas. The target audience includes municipal staff, waste management professionals and decisionmakers, as well as relevant stakeholders at regional and national level.

WM4U also organises international study visits to broaden Ukrainian stakeholders’ understanding of waste management in the context of EU accession. This also includes support for Ukrainian participation in EU associations specialising in waste management.

Finally, each Ukrainian cluster has been paired with a Swedish counterpart. Through this partnership, WM4U promotes and facilitates the exchange of experience and good practices and offers Ukrainian stakeholders first-hand insight into how the waste management value chain operates in Sweden.
