On 15 July, the Lozova community (Kharkiv region) received its second batch of containers as part of the technical support provided by WM4U – “Waste Management for Ukraine.” The programme is implemented by SALAR International in partnership with Avfall Sverige and funded by the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). This time, the community received 224 containers of 600 litres each from the waste management company of Borås municipality, further strengthening Lozova’s technical infrastructure.

This marks the second delivery of containers for the community. The first took place on 24 March 2025, when Lozova received 191 containers from the Swedish municipality of Uppsala. In total, the community has now received 415 containers, significantly enhancing its capacity to implement an effective household waste management system.
The delivered containers will enable Lozova to expand regular solid waste collection coverage across its settlements, improve waste transportation logistics, and reduce the number of illegal dumping sites. This is a critical step towards building a more systematic, safe, and environmentally responsible waste management system.

Through close cooperation with Swedish municipalities, the WM4U programme supplies Ukrainian communities with equipment that has already been used but remains in good condition and fit for continued service. Containers, waste collection trucks, bins – all of these help communities strengthen their infrastructure and adopt more modern approaches to local waste management.
“Infrastructure improvements in communities are not just about equipment. They are an investment in sustainability, safety, dignity, and public trust. Lozova is an excellent example of how a community can take responsibility for developing a waste management system, even in challenging conditions, and actively implement modern solutions,” noted Håkan Gustafsson, WM4U Programme International Donations Coordinator.
The delivery to Lozova is part of a systemic effort to support pilot communities participating in the WM4U programme. In addition to technical assistance, the programme also offers capacity-building for specialists, experience-sharing with Swedish partners, regulatory framework development, and strategic planning at the regional and cluster levels.
